Summer 2026: IT Data and Analytics Intern
- Job Description:
IT Data & Analytics Intern
INNOVATE WITHOUT BOUNDARIES! At Milwaukee Tool we firmly believe that our People and our Culture are the bookends of our success. Our employees work with a passion to never settle and always improve, enabling us to push the status quo and change the lives of our users.
Our Engineering Team is responsible for creating innovative solutions that address the unmet needs of our customers. We do this through increasing our users’ productivity by integrating new technologies and methodologies to deliver new-to-world products and product enhancements. We work together with our users through observation, interviews, and field research, making them part of the solution process. Our team defines critical benefits to our end users, constructs prototypes, and evaluates product designs considering unmet user needs, durability, materials, and manufacturing processes. Working cross functionally, we perform a wide variety of engineering and design tasks including translating user observations to insights, employing proven ideation techniques, 3D modeling and mathematical simulation, and rapid prototype development.
Behind our doors you'll be empowered every day to own it, drive it, and do what it takes to design and develop the biggest breakthroughs in the industry. Meanwhile, you'll have the support and resources of the fastest-growing brand in the construction industry to make it happen.
You'll execute EXTREME OWNERSHIP through these duties and responsibilities:
Data fundamentals. Comfortable with SQL and at least one scripting language (e.g., Python or R); familiarity with data modeling concepts (star/snowflake, normalization) and common data formats (CSV/JSON/Parquet).
Analytics & BI. Ability to shape datasets and build clear, reliable visuals and metrics in tools like Power BI or Tableau (DAX or calculated fields a plus); translate business questions into measurable KPIs.
Data engineering & pipelines. Exposure to ETL/ELT patterns and orchestration (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Airflow, dbt, Databricks, Synapse, Snowflake, or equivalents); version control with Git and basic CI/CD concepts.
Data operations (DataOps). Interest in observability and reliability—job monitoring, alerting, run‑book driven troubleshooting, SLA awareness, and configuration-as-code; comfort working in a ticket/Agile workflow.
Database administration basics. Understanding of users/roles/permissions, indexing, query tuning, backups/restores, and capacity monitoring across platforms such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.
Cloud literacy. Foundational knowledge of one major cloud (Azure, AWS, or GCP)—storage (e.g., ADLS/S3), compute (e.g., Databricks/EMR/BigQuery/Synapse), and networking/security fundamentals; Docker familiarity is a plus.
MLOps (nice to have). Exposure to feature preparation, packaging and deploying models, and experiment tracking/monitoring (e.g., MLflow, Azure ML, SageMaker, or Vertex AI); awareness of model performance/drift concepts.
Quality, governance, and security. Habit of validating data (e.g., dbt tests, Great Expectations), documenting lineage, and respecting privacy/security standards (RBAC, least privilege, data classification).
Communication & teamwork. Translate requirements into tasks, write clear documentation, and collaborate with engineers and business partners; bring a curiosity‑driven, ownership mindset in a fast‑paced environment.
We don’t expect you to be an expert in all areas—bring depth in some and enthusiasm to learn the rest.
The TOOLS you’ll need to have:
A student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent major.
Experience in data visualization (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, Python/R, Looker, etc.) with the desire to design and deliver cross functional custom reporting solutions.
Passionate about drawing insights from data and clearly communicate them to the stakeholders and management as required.
Strong professional written, verbal, analytical and interpersonal skills
Basic knowledge of Cloud Experience (e.g. AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, etc.).
Basic skills in SQL (e.g. MS SQL, T-SQL, PostgreSQL, SPARQL), data modeling, ETL development, and data warehousing.
Our Perks and Benefits:
- 11-Week Paid Internship
- Summer Housing Support
- Generous 401 (K) savings plan.
- On-site wellness, fitness center, food, and boutique coffee service.
